Tron tomorrow...

Every friday I like to go to Cineworld and just be entertained... This is the point of movies to me, sure some of them manage to inform and broaden my mind, yadda yadda yadda... But what I really want to do is watch a movie that takes me out of reality and into a world that I don't have to pay bills in, that I don't have pain in, or hospital appointments in (they really get to me)

Tomorrow, along with Rob Carey and probably some others I'm going to see the new Tron movie, I had only recently watched the original and if this new movie has half the entertainment as the original then I'm going to be a happy bunny.

Now back to tonight, I'm writing TIM AND LYNNE a love story about two serial killers who meet and fall in love, and also they go on this rampage of killing that will have to be seen to be believed.  Next week I continue with the lettering of RED GHOST and the new pages I just got from Rob Carey for THE SOCIETY FOR THE REMARKABLE SUICIDE.  So when Rob is finished with both they will be as ready for release as possible.

As a tease for you here is the latest page that Rob has sent me from RED GHOST... feel free to post this around and let others know what is going on here in Stephen World(?) no?  Coffey World(?) no?  ok I'm going to have to think up something special to call my world just like Mark Millar....

Next Year...

For the last two years I haven't really managed to get to any conventions... A sad tale of health difficulties that would have your heart in tears... at least I hope it would.  Next year with RED GHOST and SOCIETY FOR THE REMARKABLE SUICIDE graphic novels coming out and more POGOROBOTO graphics on the way, I'll have to get out there and promote these books as best I can.

RED GHOST has art by the amazing Rob Carey... who isn't just a great artist but one of the funniest little feckers I've ever met, it doesn't matter what you are talking about as he can make it sound both dirty and funny in the blink of an eye... which is not a talent to be taken lightly... RED GHOST is a tale of Ninja and mind blowing crazy action scenes.  I'm constantly trying to find the best way of describing the book to people, but the easiest way of getting to the right description is by saying the graphic novel is a mixture of GOODFELLAS, HALLOWEEN, DEADPOOL, AMERICAN NINJA, and THE BOSTON STRANGLER (a very underrated performance from Tony Curtis)  Below is page 29 from the RED GHOST graphic novel.

So watch out for myself, Rob Carey, and my fellow RED GHOST author Patrick Burton at some Conventions next year, you can follow along on twitter www.twitter.com/stephencoffey and always feel free to stop by the online store on lulu at http://stores.lulu.com/store.php?fAcctID=2480284 or on your local Amazon website.

It's about love dumbass!

Now that some of the threat problems have been resolved and I am getting art in from the fantastic Rob Carey, it looks as though there is a publishing date in site for Society for the Remarkable Suicide.  It's been over 3 yeas since I wrote the script and a number of artists have been on board and the reasons from non completion have ranged from the utter stupid to the very tragic.  What can I say?  I should have just written a novel version and let the graphic novel script fall into the trash... but that isn't me, I love a fight and an uphill struggle.

There still are some people out there unhappy with the book, but they don't seem too bothered about finding out the story within the pages, they read the title and know everything... I get about 10 to 15 emails a week from people telling me to change the title, or face having some form of trouble at signings... and a well known franchise comic shop here in Dublin has already said they won't stock the book without some form of disclaimer on the front saying that "the shop does not endorse suicide" (which I didn't think they did) and also I'd have to cover the cover up with a big sticker or something... even though many other titles on their shelves feature more morally grey art and words.  I can't be bothered with them stocking this book as they have no clue about what really is the meaning inside the pages.

It's about love, and sticking around for another day, because we never know what the next day will bring and how happiness and love can find us when we least expect it.  Sure there are graphic scenes of over the top suicides, and some people said the message is more 'personal choice' but in the end its the love story of two people who join this Society for the Remarkable Suicide and realise that they are going to live for each other rather than die for nothing.

So here are the first two pages of the graphic novel section of the book THE SOCIETY FOR THE REMARKABLE SUICIDE with art by Rob Carey.

Red Ghost... People Still like Ninja don't they?

Things I like about writing.. I don't have to answer to a boss (always a plus), I get to do it laying down (one of the many things I'm great at laying down) and I create anything I damn well like...

There are other reasons I love to write and create but you the main one is last reason there, I create anything I damn well like.  Earlier this year a friend came to me and said, write something like Halloween, but instead of Michael Myers make it an unstoppable Ninja.  I had nothing else to write at the time and had never did any Ninja pieces before so I thought 'What the hell!" My first thought really should have been "How much does this pay?" but hindsight is 20/20...

So after a few weeks the process that goes before writing, for me it's a movie of the script that plays in my head, was finished.  RED GHOST started to form as a being and I started to write, after a week of doing 1 hour bites of writing the script was finished and I was damn happy about it.  My fellow writer Patrick Burton liked the script and then we sent the script to artists... one of which was Robert Carey, probably the most talented and deranged artist I've ever met.  The team was set.

Patrick is busy writing the backstory prose pieces that will elevate the script to heights that I never dreamed of, he's one of those writers that make it look effortless, the git, and a writer that I admire a lot, I'm proud to call him my friend.

Robert... it's hard to say what makes him tick, you write something down on a page that you want him to draw and he comes back giving you exactly that and 100% more.  I've never seen any artist do so much preparations just on the main 2 characters.  He's worth the money he's getting paid.

Red Ghost is a Ninja who will work for anyone once they don't harm children, if they do he will go after their children.  Mob boss Mickey O'Rourke hires him and after 10 years is still under the Ninja's gaze.  When Red Ghost goes after the Mob Boss' family, Mickey must do the unthinkable, hire a bigger monster.

Red Ghost really gave me a chance to put in a lot of the crazy action set pieces that were going through my head and create a characters that I can write more of in the future.  Also it allowed me to write about one of my childhood fascinations, Ninja, I was a massive fan of Ninja films during the 80's and 90's (not so much the recent attempts to do them) American Ninja films were always full of camp Ninja goodness and there was one other film which starred Chuck Conners called Sakura Killers which at the time was amazing.

The graphic novel of RED GHOST will hopefully be out early next year along with a few other projects written by me.  But for now I will leave you with an excluse look at one of the pages from RED GHOST will let you know exactly what is coming... this is page 15...

If you can stop by my store and buy a download or hard copy of one of my books, all profits go to the production of more books and future projects thanks in advance http://stores.lulu.com/store.php?fAcctID=2480284

Welcome to bewilderment!

Here on my new blog I will post any and all things that I want, from reviews of comics, movies, music, TV, and books to shamlessly promoting my own work and fighting back against the threats that are coming in from my graphic novel that is in the works called 'The Society for the Remarkable Suicide' which has just gotten a boost by getting great artist and friend Rob Carey on board as an artist...

I guess that the people who have a problem with the book have only read the title and therefore taken an instant dislike to the book.  How these people can judge a book by its title alone is beyond me, they also think that the book is a guide to suicide, which it is not, it is however in essence a love story, a tale of two people that join this Society and in their planning of their suicides find a reason to live.  Sure there are scenes of graphic and over the top suicidal acts, I can't deny that, but it through seeing both side, the love and the horror, that it will make you think about the book and suicide.

For me the book is about finding a reason to live and also promoting the fact that we never know what lies around the corner so sticking around for another day is worth it...

I've attached a piece of art from a friend who has created pieces inspired by the book...

This is 'Joyce' by Barry Mcgowan
