Now that some of the threat problems have been resolved and I am getting art in from the fantastic Rob Carey, it looks as though there is a publishing date in site for Society for the Remarkable Suicide. It's been over 3 yeas since I wrote the script and a number of artists have been on board and the reasons from non completion have ranged from the utter stupid to the very tragic. What can I say? I should have just written a novel version and let the graphic novel script fall into the trash... but that isn't me, I love a fight and an uphill struggle.
There still are some people out there unhappy with the book, but they don't seem too bothered about finding out the story within the pages, they read the title and know everything... I get about 10 to 15 emails a week from people telling me to change the title, or face having some form of trouble at signings... and a well known franchise comic shop here in Dublin has already said they won't stock the book without some form of disclaimer on the front saying that "the shop does not endorse suicide" (which I didn't think they did) and also I'd have to cover the cover up with a big sticker or something... even though many other titles on their shelves feature more morally grey art and words. I can't be bothered with them stocking this book as they have no clue about what really is the meaning inside the pages.
It's about love, and sticking around for another day, because we never know what the next day will bring and how happiness and love can find us when we least expect it. Sure there are graphic scenes of over the top suicides, and some people said the message is more 'personal choice' but in the end its the love story of two people who join this Society for the Remarkable Suicide and realise that they are going to live for each other rather than die for nothing.
So here are the first two pages of the graphic novel section of the book THE SOCIETY FOR THE REMARKABLE SUICIDE with art by Rob Carey.
Stay tuned for more and visit the store and buy a hard copy or download of a book to help support the production of more books, including Society for the Remarkable Suicide,
